All glass used in production of my glasswerx is made in the U.S.A.
The term "cold worked glass" means that the glass has been manipulated in one way or another without the use of heat. This applies to the copper and foil stained glass technique I use in many of my projects as well as other glass art applications.
"Hot glass, warm glass, or kiln fired glass" is a special glass that has a specific COE (coefficiency of expansion) and when compatible, will allow different pieces of glass to be melted together in a kiln or with other heat sources to result in a single solid piece of glass. Depending on the highest temperature used the results may be fully fused to one piece or tack fused creating dimension and texture.
Dichroic glass is a beautiful glass developed by NASA for use in satellite mirrors. Multiple micro thin layers of different metal oxides (gold, silver, titanium, chromium, aluminum, zirconium, magnesium and silicon) are evaporated on to the surface of the glass in a vacuum chamber. Certain wavelengths of light will either pass through or be reflected resulting in a vast array of color to be visible. Someone once described dichroic glass as looking like an oil slick on top of water. Imagine that only shinier and in many more colors. Due to variations in the firing process, individual results can never be exactly reproduced thereby making each piece of dichroic glass unique.
